Our community-building projects reflect our beliefs that rural communities hold the key to their own success, and inclusive decision making generates the best ideas. Our community building services include visioning, strategic planning, facilitation, consensus building, and more. We have facilitated nearly 100 strategic plans and visions for rural communities and regions and have worked with more than 200 community groups. We believe that effective, diverse, and collaborative leadership is an essential component of vital rural communities. We also believe that leadership can be an intentional and learned skill. RDI has delivered our flagship Ford Institute Leadership Program in more than 300 communities. We also offer leadership services tailored to fit the needs and culture of specific groups. That’s why our economic vitality programs focus on helping small businesses thrive through networking, skill building, and planning. Since 1991, RDI has worked in more than 300 rural communities in the Northwest, and through this we have access to the Northwest's most important asset: people. We facilitate networking formally through events, online through our RIPPLE website, and informally every chance we get, so that the knowledge, skills, and experiences of the people we work with can be passed between communities that may lie far apart. Our youth programs promote youth voices in rural Oregon and beyond. All of our programs are designed, delivered, and evaluated in partnership with the youth we serve. Youth are not only participants in our programs but are the driving force behind them. We provide youth programs across RDI’s service areas—Leadership Development, Community Building, Organizational Development, Economic Vitality, and Networking. We have the capacity and enthusiasm to partner with youth and adults from your school, organization, or community to design a program that best serves you.

Our trainings in Latino Services are dynamic, informative, and relevant to Latino traditions in rural communities. Our trainings are adjusted to meet the necessities of the Latino culture as well as the culture of the group we are working with. All of our trainings aim to increase unity among Latinos in the community, and increase Latino leadership in the community at large. We facilitate these trainings in Spanish or bilingually (English/Spanish), depending on the needs of the group. We offer trainings in economic development and in leadership, in collaboration with the local community and statewide resource providers. From building businesses to building leaders, RDI Latino Services focus on individual and community growth in rural areas across the state.

Our Tribal Services program provides technical assistance and consulting services to Tribes and other Native organizations. We provide culturally relevant services in the areas of: facilitation, community development that focuses on leadership training, networking, organizational development, as well as, economic vitality. RDI encourages the development of mutually beneficial partnerships to expand opportunities in the areas of job creation and economic development in Indian country. We also provide Cultural Competency Training (CCT) to non-Indian organizations and groups working in Indian country.
